With the launch of our 3D Vision® 2 glasses, it was easy to overlook advancements being made on 3D Vision-Ready monitors. Product Manager Michael McSorley walks you through the latest and greatest developments in the display category.
Other than the obvious advantage of an increase in the maximum size for 3D Vision panels—from 24-inches to 27-inches—there are really two primary game-changing features that you should be aware of: 3D LightBoost and full 120Hz support.
NVIDIA 3D LightBoost is a new display technology that improves color quality and delivers up to 2X brighter 3D images than existing 3D solutions. It also dramatically increases environmental lighting, making gaming keyboards and mice more visible, and reduces 3D ghosting, allowing for more freedom of movement in 3D Vision mode. 3D LightBoost works by adjusting the LED backlight in an LCD monitor to pulse twice as brightly in unison with the LCD lenses in the 3D Vision glasses, making the resulting images up to 2 times brighter than previous 3D products.
120Hz refresh means that the typical 60 frames per second limit on games, imposed by 60Hz refresh rate LCD monitors, is completely blown away. So if you decide to use your 3D monitor for standard 2D gaming, a 120Hz refresh means ultra-realistic gaming action and silky smooth motion is now possible—up to 120 fps without any tearing! Get the most out of your GeForce card, crank up that refresh rate, and enjoy silky smooth game play.
